Maria Kelly

Interim Executive Director

Maria Kelly joins the EVC team with a decade of experience in developing robust and equitable community networks through community affairs work. Prior to joining the EVC, she has worked for Berkshire Hathaway Renewable Energy LLC and JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery in supporting their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and other community communication and engagement work. In August 2019, started a Master’s Program in the Graziadio Business School at Pepperdine University. The program focuses on management and leadership and she is on track to graduate in December 2020.  
 
In addition to her role with the EVC, Maria volunteers for several other organizations that contribute the health and well-being of our community. With One Cool Earth, she is working alongside the team to enhance the role of the Board of Directors and increase program reach. Maris states that it is her belief that good leadership within our businesses and organizations contributes significantly to the overall well-being of our communities.

Valarie Koos

Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Koos graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Her specific areas of expertise include complying with corporate, individual, trust, and partnership tax law; planning tax strategies on an international, multistate, and local basis; researching complex tax issues; representing clients on audits by the IRS and various state taxing authorities; preparation of required income tax provisions and required disclosures for the financial statements for private entities; and consulting on accounting and auditing related issues. She currently serves as a member of the music education committee for the San Luis Obispo Symphony. She has previously served on the Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo Symphony and on the Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival. She is a member of the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Loreli Cappel

Senior Project Director

As Senior Project Director for the EVC, Ms. Cappel manages various tasks and projects including the development of the EVC's Employer-Talent Connection Website www.SloCountyWorks.com, Facilitation of the EVC's Industry Cluster work, and management of a Regional Economic Strategy & Implementation Plan to help grow and diversify business in San Luis Obispo County and our sub-regions. Homegrown on the Central Coast, and a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Loreli is extremely passionate about the region's success and quality of life it provides. She previously served as Manager of Urban Revitalization and Design Services at Michael Baker International and brings to the EVC almost 20 years of experience in community planning and public engagement. Ms. Cappel has focused her career on helping communities develop long range visions, plans, and implementation strategies for achieving these visions. Her passion for genuine community and stakeholder engagement runs deep. The EVC Senior Project Director position is a natural progression of her career, and presents an opportune use of her talents.

Jill LeMieux

Director of Business Strategy

As Director of Business Strategy, Ms. LeMieux manages key strategic initiatives for the organization including working with local industry, government and nonprofit leaders on the EVC Childcare Initiative to address the lack of accessible childcare in our region. Additionally, in partnership with the California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC), she is conducting an industry needs assessment aimed to address and remove barriers to operations. 
 
A Cal Poly grad, Ms. LeMieux has strong ties to the community and extensive experience in managing non-profits, as well as in community development. Most recently, she was the Director of Membership for the SLO Chamber of Commerce where she managed a membership of over 1,400 local businesses for the past seven years. With a strong sense of civic duty, she continues to be an involved community member currently serving on the board of directors for RISE, SLO Symphony and City of SLO’s Personal Board. In the past, she has served as a board and committee member for CASA, the City of SLO’s Promotional Coordinating Committee, and Parks and Recreation Commission.
