Demographic Profiles of San Luis Obispo County

The population in the San Luis Obispo County is growing at a steady and manageable pace.  Migration from other areas, primarily the Bay Area and Los Angeles, is the major contribution to the population growth in the County.  The migration has been steadily increasing and in 2001 it was approximately 3,681, and according to the 2005 UCSB San Luis Obispo County Economic Outlook, the migration is projected to stay approximately the same over the next few years.  However, natural increases in the County population have been decreasing while the death rate has remained relatively stable.  So as the birth rate has been dropping over the last decade the median age of a SLO County resident has been demonstrating an increasing trend. As of 2005 the median age is 38.5.
