California's leading statewide economic development organization elects Michael Manchak to its Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) elected Michael Manchak, President and CEO of the Economic Vitality Corporation of San Luis Obispo County, to serve on the CALED Board.  Manchak joins a large Board of business and government leaders from throughout California and the central coast business community will have access to a CALED’s network of experts to build healthy communities through business expansion, retention, and attraction.

San Luis Obispo Regional Airport Receives Half a Million Dollar Grant to Expand Airline Service
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., February 19, 2010 – The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is one of nineteen airports nationwide to secure a federal grant that will increase service and make the airport more competitive. “Receiving this grant is great news for the future of our County and the airport,” said Michael Cannon, Chair of the San Luis Obispo Air Transportation Alliance (SLOCATA), an advocacy group that has been instrumental in helping the airport. “These federal dollars will help attract service for new routes. The importance of this award to local businesses cannot be understated – they are the lifeblood of our communities.”

EVC Welcomes Governor Schwarzenegger to San Luis Obipso
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., February 8, 2010 – The Economic Vitality Corporation (EVC) of San Luis Obispo County welcomed California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a tour of a local business, REC Solar, a firm noted for being the nation’s largest solar power integrator. County Supervisor Adam Hill, also an EVC Board member, and EVC president Michael Manchak were speakers at the event, which included over 150 guests and dignitaries including Senator Abel Maldonado and Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee.

EVC Announces Role in Federal Economic Stimulus Plan for State
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., June 4, 2009 – The Economic Vitalit
y Corporation (EVC) of
San Luis Obispo County has been designated by the State of California as a district
coordinator for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the federal economic stimulus plan. Since April of 2009, the EVC has been coordinating proposals for projects needing economic stimulus funding on behalf of the State’s Business Transportation and Housing Agency (BT&H) for a region that includes the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa
Barbara, Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz.

EVC Unveils Tourism Industry Study in Public Forums. Reveals Local Economic Impact of Over $1.1 Billion
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., September 23, 2008 – The Economic Vitality Corporation (EVC) of San Luis Obispo County releases the results of its tourism industry study this week. The research for the project lasted several months and is a thorough analysis of one of the largest industries in San Luis Obispo County. A report will be released for this first-time study at two public meetings in September 24th and 25th featuring the author, Carl Ribaudo, President of Strategic Marketing Group (SMG). As a countywide economic development organization, the EVC commissioned this independent study in order to provide a professional analysis for one of the largest industries in San Luis Obispo County.

EVC Announces New Air Service Projects

UIS OBISPO, California - The Economic Vitality Corporation (EVC) of San Luis Obispo County announced it is spearheading efforts to preserve air service at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport. The EVC is championing the formation of an airport advisory task force called the SLO County Air Transportation Alliance, to create and implement strategies to prevent any further loss of airline service, and possibly attract new service to the airport. The EVC is raising funds from organizations in our community to commission an Airport Market Analysis to recommend the kinds of air service that are sustainable here, and the business conditions that would attract the airlines
